And who is Jessica Lauren? Well, I’m a little Black girl from the West Side of Detroit living out her dreams in Chicago. I am an actress, a french fry connoisseur, and lover of all things beautiful.

Who takes your pictures?
Believe it or not, I do! Well at least 95% of them. When I’m back home visiting my family in Detroit, I hire my 15-year-old baby brother to take some pictures for me. But most of the time– it’s all me! I use my iPhone 7 Plus, a Bluetooth Remote Shutter, and a Tripod with a Cell Phone Tripod Adapter . I set my cell phone up on the tripod, sync it with the Bluetooth Remote and shoot away!
What software do you use to edit your pictures?
I use Vsco Cam and A Color Story. When I first started #NRJ I didn’t have a fancy camera or the latest editing software so I learned how to do a lot with my iPhone. A few years later, and I am still making this thing work with my trusty iPhone and a few apps. Eventually, I’ll switch to editing in Lightroom and all that jazz but right now I’m about that “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it life”!
What platform do you host your blog?
WordPress.org all day long!
I’m a first-time blogger, any advice?
Work with what you have! It would be nice to start off with a DSLR camera, a MacBook, a Stylist, a Seo specialist and the like. But for some of us–it just doesn’t work like that. Sometimes you have to start with what the Lord has already blessed you with. Don’t be discouraged if you don’t have the latest and greatest. Just focus on doing your best consistent work and the rest will follow. YouTube, Amazon, and Google are you best friends! I’ve made #NRJ look pretty legit by learning how to use what I already have. I didn’t know the first thing about photography, branding, writing or video production so I became a student of it. I watched tutorials, I read the books and I made it werk!
Don’t get caught up in the numbers. It’s ok if in your first month you only have 5 readers. You have to start somewhere. Don’t let that discourage you! Keep writing. Keep showing up. Eventually the readers, followers, partnerships will come. But you have to do the work first. From the very first day, I acted as if I already had 1 million readers and I think that mindset is what kept me in the game and held me accountable to the work! Advertising, Affiliates + Sponsorships
I am so super blessed to be able to partner up with some of my favorite brands to bring you exclusive content + deals. You will always be the first to know if a post is sponsored, if an item was gifted or if a link will redirect you to an affiliate site. You’ll typically see “This post contains affiliate links” or “Sponsored Post” right at the very top of a post. Don’t worry, I am super picky when it comes to working with Brands– if it doesn’t wow me or add any value to the life of #NRJ readers, I ain’t going lol!
