Marielou Mandl, legit does it all. She is a media megastar! Not in an “I’ll eat anything disgusting on Youtube and get a million followers kinda way”, more so in the big time producer and digital content creator kind of way. When she is not creating some of the dopest videos and photo projects for big time brands- she is over at MarielouMandl.Com blogging about the ups and downs of being a creative professional. She even shares some of her top secret tips and tricks about all things creative from camera gear to taking the best selfie. This girl is talented. One of her biggest talents is being able to look good on the fly! She travels a ton and still manages to look boss from head to toe. So I had to interview my friend and ask her how she manages to travel the world, work with huge brands and remain fashionable of fun! Take a peek at her answers below!
How would you describe your personal style?
Efficient glamor – I am drawn to solid pieces in classic cuts that I can pair a lot of different ways and adding something a little flashy, usually the jacket or shoes. I like to be ready for anything so I try not to wear anything too fussy or precious because if the mood strikes, I will absolutely lay in the dirt to capture a photo if I need to.
Who’s your style icon?
When looking for inspiration I usually research Angelina Jolie. I like that her style is classic with a good feminine/masculine balance.
You travel a ton for work right? What’s your go to airport style?
Before signing up for TSA pre-check, I would always wear my favorite Steve Madden combat boots, tights, a black tank top, and my red flannel or blue chambray shirt so when going through security, I would essentially be in a cat suit with no room for them to think I’m hiding anything! There is no time to waste when you have to wait in that LAX TSA line every week. Now, that I have TSA pre-check, it has evolved into something different. The boots only make it through the detectors half of the time so I have swapped those for some cute casual sneakers, skinny jeans, whatever my fav t-shirt of the moment is, a ball cap, hoodie and red lipstick – just to keep it classy.
What’s the one item in your closet that you can not live without?
SOCKS! Nice, cushy socks of different types and colors to go with all my different types of shoes. I hate having my toes out unless I am in heels. Even then, I prefer a boot with a heel so I can keep my toes cozy.
What’s the biggest fashion crime you’ve committed?
No crimes, just moments! My style has been everything from all black classic to flashy + trashy. It all is a reflection of what my day requires of me and my current mood. Sometimes all you need are t-shirt and jeans, sometimes the day calls for corsets and 7-inch heels…but that is a story for another day. If you never step outside of your comfort zone, you will never grow. Fashion should be fun. I regret nothing. 😀
If you could share one piece of style advice with our readers what would it be?
Aim to always be slightly overdressed. Whenever I do that, I never regret it. If you do it enough, you will no longer be that person that is overdressed. That will just be how YOU dress. And how you dress should be fabulous.
Where are your favorite stores and sites to shop?
STEVE MADDEN. I have a serious problem when I walk into that store. I adore boutique stores and most of my favorite pieces were bought in the LA Fashion District.
What’s the one item you’ve been lusting over?
Some really fabulous, old-school, wide leg jeans that are not cropped. Everything is skinny jeans, everywhere, and usually with rips in them. I feel like I’ve been to every mall in the United States and cannot find some nice, clean-cut, wide leg jeans. If anyone has any leads, let me know.
